TREATMENTS

NEUROKINETIC THERAPY (NKT)

NeuroKinetic Therapy® can be the missing link- If you are struggling with pain, can’t break through a plateau, have muscle tension that won’t release, keep getting the same injury, consider that your motor control / movement patterns might be holding you back.

NeuroKinetic Therapy is an application of Motor Control Theory, neuroscience, and functional anatomy (neurobiomechanics) that will help unravel the cause of faulty movement patterns in the brain’s Motor Control Center.

The Motor Control Centre (MCC) of the brain controls movement. Due to many reason (ex. Injury, scars, posture, biomechanics, etc) a Faulty Movement Pattern can develop where the MCC is activating the incorrect muscle, creating muscle imbalances with inhibited and compensating muscles.

NKT® identifies muscle imbalances by using unique protocols to determine what muscles are inhibited and what muscles are compensating for them, thereby allowing specific treatment and corrective exercise techniques to restore proper movement patterns and reprogram the motor control center.

NKT aids the brain in identifying the dysfunctional pattern and proprioception and once the brain is aware it can begin to solve the problem.

Motor Control = Movement patterns are stored in the cerebellum (motor control centre) of the brain. When we ask our body to achieve something, the brain sends a message to the musculoskeletal system via the motor control centre which co-ordinates and organizes what movement patterns will be used. The more we do this the signal gets stronger and easier to achieve.

These movement patterns can become dysfunctional/altered and replaced with substitute patterns at time of injury, post surgery, or inability to sustain repetition of a movement. The brain can continue this dysfunctional pattern until it is corrected. NKT opens the door for the brain to relearn the correct pattern.

How does this relate to your problem?

When your muscles, joints, and other structures in the body over compensate for a weak/inhibited muscle it can lead to:

-overuse injuries (tendinitis and bursitis)                             -hypertoned and tight muscles                                                                         -nerve and blood vessel impingement                                -joint restriction                                                                                                       -postural issues                                                                             -decreased performance                                                                                   -weakness                                                                                       -Myofascial Trigger Points

Temporomandibular Massage (TMJ)

The TMJ is acknowledged as one of the most complicated joints of the body, presenting with primary and secondary variables and compensating issues at the cranial and cervical regions.

Clenching the teeth is a very common habit, especially during sleep, and often results in an accumulation of both compression forces in the joints and asymmetrical muscle tightness which can lead to clicking, pain and ultimately joint damage. Resolving the joint compression and muscular tightness can re-pattern the jaw mechanics and save pain and difficulties decades later. Many clients have had a mouth appliance fitted by their dentist to correct their bite, and massage therapy for the chewing muscles offers an effective support for this approach.

TMJ pain and dysfunction may be secondary to other conditions; posture, especially head-forward carriage, is often a main component of TMJ issues. As well, many cases of low back pain and dysfunction present along with TMJ difficulties. Singers, broadcasters, clergy, teachers and instrumental musicians will all know the value of having an unrestricted jaw. Many people in the arts find this treatment highly valuable.

Massage therapy for TMJ disorders can provide relief from many symptoms, including the following:

  • Biting or chewing difficulty or discomfort

  • Clicking, popping, or grating sound when opening or closing the mouth

  • Dull, aching pain in the face

  • Earache

  • Headache

  • Jaw pain or tenderness of the jaw

  • Reduced ability to open or close the mouth

  • Tinnitus

  • Neck and shoulder pain

 CranioSacral Therapy (CST)

A CranioSacral therapy session involves the therapist placing their hands on the patient, which allows them to tune into the craniosacral system. The practitioner gently works with the spine and the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia. In this way, the restrictions of nerve and blood vessel passages are eased, the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord is optimized, and misaligned bones are said to be restored to their proper position. Craniosacral therapists use the therapy to treat mental stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ Syndrome, and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia.

This treatment is done fully clothed lying face up.

Pregnancy Massage

You will be able to lie on your stomach with my pregancy specific table. The focus would be your needs for that day. Aches and pain may be different on different days depending on the individual and how far along you are in the pregnancy. The goal is to make you as comfortable as I possibly can.

Hot Stone Treatment

Enjoy the benefit of being massaged and have heat applied to your body at the same time. These stones are a natural Basalt and have a high heat retention. A Hot Stone treatment is more of a general relaxing therapy and it feels great.
